Unit 2 . Meeting an aсquaintance

Do you know

When you meet a man whom you know you can act officially or not, depending on your relationship with that person.
As a rule, people do not suddenly interrupt a conversation. It is impolite to stand up abruptly from the seat, saying «Good-bye» and leave. Usually, the end of the conversation requires some time. Some sentences that precede goodbye serve for this purpose (preclosing).
Preclosing - a phrase that shows a partner that it is time to end the conversation. In formal situations, ignoring these phrases is regarded as a rude and tactless attitude.
Welcome and preclosing are usually pronounced with a falling tone termination. The hello is often pronounced with a rising tone.
Farewell should be pronounced with a rising tone. Using a top-down tone parting indicates rude or dismissive attitude of the speaker to the other party, and in some cases may be interpreted as unwillingness for further communication
